Indeed. Some outfits asking for donations are complete ripoffs where very little of your donation actually goes to the benefactor, while others are just a front for funneling funds to utterly criminal and terrorist activities!
One charity organization that is bona-fide genuine and can be trusted, is UMCOR, the United Methodist Committee On Relief. I know, because it is the sanctioned humanitarian aid arm of my denomination of Christianity, the United Methodist Church: www.umcor.org/ 100% of a donation by members of the public go to the relief and aid project they choose. To take care of administrative, overhead, and communication costs, UMCOR instead relies on other funding channels, the majority of that being an annual special voluntary tithe from United Methodist congregations specifically set aside to cover those non-project costs to ensure 100% of project donations are used for the projects themselves.
